How to measure lug width

Grab a caliper or a ruler marked in millimeters. Measure the gap on the inside of the lugs, right where the strap goes in. Round to the nearest whole millimeter. Most watches land on an even number like 18, 20 or 22, but plenty of modern watches use odd sizes like 19 or 21, so do not assume.

What is lug width?

Lug width is the distance between the inside edges of the two lugs, where the strap attaches. It is measured in millimeters, and it is the number you need to buy a strap that fits.

How do I find my watch's lug width?

Search your model or reference in the finder above. If your watch is not listed, measure the inside gap between the lugs with a caliper and round to the nearest millimeter.

Can I put a 20mm strap on a 21mm watch?

It will go on, but you will see a small gap at each side and the strap can slide around. A 22mm strap usually will not fit 21mm lugs at all. Buy the exact size whenever you can.

Why do newer Rolex watches use 21mm straps?

Rolex moved several models to 21mm, including the Submariner 41, Datejust 41, Explorer 40 and Oyster Perpetual 41. Older versions of some of these were 20mm, so always check your exact reference.

Do integrated bracelet watches take normal straps?

Usually not. Watches like the Tissot PRX and Citizen Tsuyosa need straps made for that model. G-Shocks like the DW-5600 and GA-2100 need an adapter first.

What is a curved end strap?

A curved end strap is shaped to sit flush against the case, with no gap between the strap and the watch. They are popular on Rolex and Omega divers where the lug holes sit close to the case.
